Kid Mode: Safe, Locked-Down Viewing

Hand over the tablet without worrying. Kid Mode creates a completely locked-down viewing environment where your child can only watch the videos you have approved. No search bar, no recommendations, no way to escape to the wider internet.

PIN-Protected Profiles

Each child profile in TinyTuber is protected by a parent-set PIN. When Kid Mode is active, exiting requires entering this PIN. Your child cannot close the player, switch profiles, access settings, or navigate to other apps without the PIN. This means you can confidently hand over any device knowing your child stays within their approved content.

Set a unique PIN for each child profile
PIN required to exit Kid Mode or access parent controls
PIN is never visible to the child during playback
Change PINs anytime from your parent dashboard
Failed PIN attempts are logged for your awareness

Fullscreen Lockdown

When Kid Mode launches, the viewer goes fullscreen. The browser chrome disappears, the address bar is hidden, and the entire screen becomes TinyTuber's dedicated video player. There are no visible controls that would let a child navigate away. The video player shows only play/pause, volume, and a playlist sidebar with their approved videos.

What your child sees:

The video player (fullscreen)
Play, pause, and volume controls
Their approved playlist sidebar
A friendly, child-appropriate interface

What is hidden:

No search bar
No URL/address bar
No recommended videos
No navigation links or menus

Playlist-Only Viewing

In Kid Mode, your child can only watch videos from playlists you have assigned to them. There is no way to browse, search, or discover new content. If a video is not in an assigned playlist, it simply does not exist in your child's world. This is the core of TinyTuber's safety philosophy: a whitelist approach means only explicitly approved content is accessible.

Children browse only their assigned playlists
Each playlist can be customized per child
Videos auto-advance within a playlist
No 'related videos' or 'up next' suggestions from YouTube
Parents can update playlists anytime and changes reflect instantly

Time Limit Enforcement

Screen time limits set by parents are enforced directly within Kid Mode. When the daily limit is reached, playback stops automatically and a friendly message tells your child that viewing time is done for the day. There is no way for the child to override or extend the timer.

How time limits work in Kid Mode:

  1. 1Parent sets a daily time limit (e.g., 45 minutes) in the dashboard
  2. 2Kid Mode tracks active viewing time (paused time does not count)
  3. 3A gentle countdown notification appears when time is almost up
  4. 4When time runs out, playback stops and a friendly end screen appears
  5. 5Only a parent with the PIN can restart viewing or extend time
